چکیده

The last version of the Globus Toolkit includes both pre-WS and WS GRAM services to submit, monitor, and control jobs on remote Grid resources. In the medium term and until a full transition is accomplished, both pre-WS andWSGRAM services will coexist in Grid infrastructures. In this paper, we describe the modular architecture of the GridWay meta-scheduler, which allows the simultaneous and coordinated use of pre-WS and WS GRAM services and, therefore, makes easy the transition to a Web Service implementation of the Globus components. Such functionality is demonstrated on a infrastructure that comprises resources from a research testbed, based on the Globus Toolkit 4.0, and the EGEE production infrastructure, based on the LCG middleware. The Web Service implementation of Globus components has been optimized for flexibility, stability and scalability. However, part of the Grid community is still reluctant to transition to the Web Service model due mainly to its supposed lower performance. We demonstrate that WS GRAM achieves a performance comparable to that of pre-WS GRAM. c © 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

WS-GAF: a framework for building Grid applications using Web Services

This paper presents the motivation and design decisions for the Web Services Grid Application Framework (WS-GAF), which is a mapping of Grid architecture requirements onto the Web Services Architecture. The goal for WS-GAF is to describe a framework for building Grid applications that adheres to the principles of service-oriented architectures and utilises existing Web Services technologies. Th...

CSF4: A WSRF Compliant Meta-Scheduler

In a grid computing environment, heterogeneous resources are distributed in multiple VOs which may have different local policies. Hence, scheduling and resource management are challenging tasks in this context. Since a meta-scheduler is able to provide a virtualized resource access interface to end users, and enforce global policies for both resource providers and consumers as well, it plays mo...

Ontology Access Provisioning in Grid Environments

The increase of use of semantic technologies has reached almost every computer science related field, including the grid computing field . The next generation Grid should virtualise the notion of distribution in computation, storage, and communication over unlimited resources with well defined computational semantics. Automatic replication of WSRF-based Grid services via operation providers

The advent of service-oriented architectures in Grid environments has fostered the development of applications in distributed deployments. The Globus Toolkit 4 (GT4) and its implementation of stateful Web services, via the WS-Resource Framework (WSRF), is a suitable platform to develop these Grid services. This way, its increased usage in many scientific areas reveals new scenarios where fault-...

An Outline of the Global Grid Forum Data Access and Integration Service Specifications

Grid computing concerns itself with building the infrastructure to facilitate the sharing of computational and data resources to enable collaboration within virtual organisations. The Global Grid Forum (GGF) provides a framework for users, developers and vendors to come together to develop standards to ensure interoperability between middleware from different service providers. Central to this ...
